It’s got an A, so you know it’s nice!
While walking home from work last night, I started to get some texts from a friend. He was sending me pictures of what looked to be a delicious taco dinner from La Superior in Williamsburg. His joy triggered in me a serious case of Taco Envy, naturally I had to remedy this as soon as possible.
On the way to my apartment there is a tiny joint called Taco Today. This is what SeriousEats would call a Chinese-Mexican Restaurant. You know, the kind of place that looks like it probably was a Chinese take out place at one point, but now specializes in the tortilla arts. Taco Today pretty much fits the bill.
The first thing you notice when you get in is just the sheer amount of taco options. These folks have got over 20 different kinds of tacos for you to get wrapped into. Where would I begin? How could I possibly be expected to make the right choices? I just went with what I knew: Steak, Chorizo, and Black Beans.
Clockwise from Top Left: Black Beans, Steak Fajita & Guacamole, Chorizo
I started off with the steak. Now, this wasn’t your ordinary steak taco. It was a Steak Fajita & Guacamole taco, complete with onions and peppers. This was easily one of the best tacos I’ve had in weeks. I didn’t know what I was expecting, but I was just surprised at how good it was. The combination of the perfectly seasoned fajita steak, with the onions and guac made for a true taco delight.
Alas, this was a case of eating the best one first. Not that the Chorizo or the Black Bean tacos were bad, they just weren’t anything special. The chorizo taco was sadly lacking in spice, but very filling (Tacos Y Quesadillas is still Rey del Chorizo). As for the black beans, it was just beans on a tortilla. But I shouldn’t have expected anything too mindblowing from a quick taco joint.
I’ll definitely come back for the Steak Fajita & Guacamole, and maybe even try out some of their other taco selections. As a side note, another one of my friends ONLY gets her tacos from places like this. She claims it’s because they don’t use cilantro in their dishes. She’s not alone in thinking that cilantro tastes like soap. I myself am not averse to cilantro, but I can verify that at least Taco Today does not include it in their tacos.

With the exception of the Steak Fajita & Guacamole taco, the tacos only came with their listed ingredient.
