Dos Toros (Union Square, NYC)
If you’re looking at the GPS on your phone while looking for Dos Toros, you are more than likely going to miss it. Dos Toros is right in the hustle and bustle of 4th Avenue just east of Union Square, and the store front can’t be more than 10 feet wide. Usually when seeking taco treasures this is a good sign, as smaller, harder to find taco joints are usually where you’ll find the most authentic mexican food. Unfortunately in this case, we’re not too sure this held true. The doctor and I met here with high hopes last week, and were in the end largely disappointed in what we found, which we both described as a ‘wet taco’.
This is as unappetizing as it sounds.
We sampled all four tacos, and found three of the four (the vegetarian being the exception) to be overly greasy. Yes tacos are supposed to be greasy to an extent, but this reached grease levels more along the lines of a slice of pepperoni pizza in a white to-go bag than your ideal taco.
In terms of decor, it resembled a miniature version of Chipotle. I’ve got nothing against Chipotle, but when seeking out a more ‘authentic’ mexican dish this is not what one would hope to come across.
These tacos weren’t a complete waste of time, but needless to say we’ve had better.

[...] Not only did we watch the first No-Hitter in Mets history in a bar full of Mets fans (No-han!!!!), but we had the best tacos we’ve experienced to date. Full disclosure: this wasn’t any of our first rodeo (meaning first time at Taq LES), but that doesn’t change that this was one of the most authentic Taquerias we’ve found in NYC. In fact, Taq LES is the epitome of a ‘hole-in-the-wall’ treasure of a taqueria. We said Dos Toros tried but fell short of being in our review. [...]
